WORLD AUTISM DAY 2023 RECAP

World Autism Day was a huge success at Jake’s House! It was an amazing day filled with many events that brought together the community and celebrated the unique talents and abilities of individuals with autism. Here’s a breakdown of the day:

IN THE MORNING:

In the morning, Jake’s House Associate Director of Community Programs & Partnerships, Stephanie Cesario organized a fundraiser run that raised over $1,500 for Jake’s House. She led the charge by running a half-marathon, and many other staff members joined in by walking or running 5k to show their support.

IN THE AFTERNOON:

In the afternoon, the next Jake’s House event was the Toronto Marlies Game vs the Belleville Senators. Jake’s House was able to give away complimentary box suite tickets as part of a contest for filling out the Jake’s House Community Impact Survey. For some families, this was their first time attending a Marlies game, and everyone had an unforgettable experience with food, drinks, and lots of bonding. Plus, the Marlies won!

IN THE EVENING:

In the evening, Jake’s House provided complimentary tickets to our autism community for a special screening of the OKAY! The ASD Band film at Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema. After the film, the band performed on stage, introduced by none other than Ed Robertson and Tyler Stewart of the Bare Naked Ladies! Lauren Howe, an actress, model, engineer, and more, led a Q&A session with the band, Rawan Tuffaha, Jackson Begley, Ron Adea, Spenser Murray, musical director Maury Lafoy, and director Mark Bone. They shared their inspiring words about breaking down the stigma of autism and the limitless possibilities within the ASD community. On this day, it had been a full year since the film first premiered!

Jake’s House also set up an ASD Band Merchandise table, where they raised a total of $1,620 with 100% of the proceeds supporting Jake’s House and the ASD Band. Jake’s House is so grateful to everyone who purchased merchandise and contributed to their cause.
