Giving Tuesday 2018

50 Mentors for 50 Children: The Jake’s House Giving Tuesday Goal

1 in 66 Canadian children have autism, and most of them struggle to feel like they belong in their community. This Giving Tuesday, Jake’s House wants to connect as many of these children as possible with mentors—a personal advocate, who will help them feel understood, included and confident, encouraging improved social experiences and community engagement.

We have set a goal to find 50 new mentors for 50 of these children this Tuesday, November 27th. As part of our Legends Mentoring Program, which is delivered in collaboration with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, we are currently seeking mentors in the Ottawa, Peel, York, Lanark County & Thunder Bay areas.

When you become a mentor, you and a child in need share meaningful experiences, which can be truly transformational for both sides. This quality time is spent together over 8 hours a month for 12 months, and can have a lasting impact on both you and the child.

A legend is the story that a mentor and child create together, stemming from the significant connection and meaningful experiences they share. This legendary story encompasses all that they teach each other, all that they gain from each other, and all of the ways that they transform each other.

This Giving Tuesday, we are putting a call out to you and your networks: give a little bit of your time, make a legendary difference in a child’s life.

About Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving. Following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, days that drive the economy, Giving Tuesday is a day that supports the community. It kicks off the charitable holiday season by encouraging donations of time, resources and influence to help address social issues and support worthy causes.

Just as we are at Jake’s House, Giving Tuesday is powered by collaboration. In over 150 countries, individuals, families, companies, charities, civic organizations and communities all rally together to create a giving-back movement. Uniting and empowering us, Giving Tuesday offers the platform and the opportunity to create real change in our communities, as it encourages and amplifies our capacity to care and be kind.

This Tuesday, November 27th, contribute to the global day of giving—offer your time, make a donation, spread a positive message, help someone in need. Be a part of the movement that is making our community better.
